Official first full day of SPLICE was full and promises to be a vital part of our journey. God has brought together a unique group of people from I believe 17 agencies representing 17 areas of the world. Each is from vastly different backgrounds and stages of life, yet in God's divine wisdom and unique purposes He has drawn each together to form a special fellowship of community for the next 3 weeks.
SPLICE focuses on strengthening our skills for cross-cultural life and ministry in the context of community. Though the training has an emphasis in individual development, it is from the perspective of how this development takes place in relationship to others: relationship to God, other participants, facilitators and families.
This training in God's perfect timing takes me further on in the path of discovery and growth by His grace. It is my hearts desire to gain a more accurate understanding of my own motives, drives, joys, and fears, strengths and weaknesses. To interact with God and allow Him to show me His grace in the midst of both my current and anticipated pains and joys in the journey. The training will challenge my comfort zones.
A key thought I took away today was the statement by MTIs CEO, Steve Sweatman, "What you know about yourself you can change; what you do not know about yourself controls you!"
The truth in this statement for me personally is riveting. I understand the depth of this truth like I never could have before our journey to follow God's call on our hearts.
Even the recent question on the impact of my father on me speaks directly to this thought. I am in the process of unpacking the layers of the truths about myself in this context. Until I do, I fear some of the impacts are still controlling my interactions with others.
I heard this idea put another way in a different context: If something is going to be transformed it must be understood fully.
Seems this is a reoccurring theme for me. More to come on training and truths.
